HEMP PROJECT

ZOI identified Industrial Hemp as a crop that could be grown, and the product marketed profitably. Research showed that Zimbabwe had legalized the growing and processing of Industrial hemp and a budding industry in this sector was growing to the extent that Hemp products were exhibited at the 2021 Trade Fair.

We however realized that a huge capital investment was required to grow and process hemp as the security infrastructure required was immense. The solution was to seek Joint Venture ad partners who would provide funding and technical support while ZOI would provide the land and the legal/administrative regime. We secured land from one of our directors on his farm in Macheke.

ACTIVITIES DONE IN 2021

The following activities were carried out during the year.

  • Secured 78 hectares’ land in Macheke.
  • Commenced licensing procedures.
  • Approached the Agricultural Marketing Authority (AMA) to establish the requirements for licensing.
  • Submitted fingerprint for ZOI Directors for Security Vetting clearance.
  • Had a drone photograph of the land.
  • Had negotiations with WAUU for funding.
  • Had prolonged negotiations with African Hemp Alliance (AHA) as potential Joint Venture partners.
  • Commenced discussions with Zimbabwe Hemp Trust (ZIHT) to assist in securing a license and sourcing funding

HORTICULTURE PROJECT

The group has embarked on a horticulture drive to supply the local industry as part of its agricultural projects. The Zimondi Agriculture team will be doing various crops including carrots, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, rapes, and other crops. The team has secured land in Seke area to run the horticulture projects and now in the process of arranging logistics for security, borehole drilling and other infrastructures. The group intents to do a long-term investment in the industry and create employment opportunities for many people in the area and contribute significantly in the agri-business.

POULTRY PROJECT

The poultry project proposal for ZOI came from a potential partner, who brought the opportunity to us. As part of the group agriculture goal we welcome agro-partnership arrangements as part of our growth strategy and products diversification. Therefore, we will be partnering with a big firm in the poultry industry as a subcontractor or out grower. The general conditions are that ZOIG will provide for infrastructure and labor and basic resources like water and the supplier will provide with the birds, chemicals and support. As organization investing in agriculture we have pledged to build 2 big fowl runs with each having a capacity of 10000 birds. The projects arrangement is still work in progress and it will be done in the Seke area on the group land together with the horticulture project.

SWEET POTATO PROJECT

The sweet potatoes project was the agriculture team pilot project in 2020, and it was done in Bindura in one of ZOIG farm site. The project was done on a 1 hectare plot, having 4 variates on the ground. The project was a success, the crops received average rains and got to be harvested well. The project was not completed because we had bought more inputs in advance, meaning the agri-team will be making preparation for another season planting.
